Travelers flying to and around New Zealand won’t be able to get cheap tickets for some time as Air New Zealand will be increasing its levies being currently charged.

The decision of the airline has come after state-owned enterprise in charge of air traffic control Airways New Zealand has decided to increase its fees for air navigation services by more than 15 percent or $70 million over the next three years.

The state aviation regulator’s decision is being strongly opposed Air New Zealand, Emirates Airline and Qantas Airways. These carriers are left with no choice but passing the increased cost on to their respective customers.

The first 10.6 percent increase would be implemented by the state aviation regulator in July this year. During the past four years, there had been increases of 18 percent by the aviation regulator.

All the three carriers will now have to pay the state aviation regulator about $1700 to $3200 for each long haul flight.
