U.S. budget carrier Frontier Airlines, famed for offering cheap tickets to its customers, recently disclosed that it has decided to end its year-round service currently operational between Rockford and Denver.

Frontier Airlines in a statement said that the company had managed to get good business during the summer season on Rockford-Denver route. However, leaving summers aside the airline has performed miserably during the rest of the year with considerably less revenue yielding into severe losses.

The airline said that its flights to Denver represented nearly 7 percent of the passenger traffic at the Chicago Rockford International Airport.

Frontier Airlines had been offering thrice weekly roundtrip flights between Denver and Rockford ever since December 2011.

Media reports quoted a spokeswoman of the airline stating that market performance of Frontier on Rockford-Denver route was not profitable beyond the summer peak season. And thus maintaining year-round service was not justifiable.
