Turkish Airlines will serve Washington, D.C. nonstop from Istanbul!

Starting November 6, 2010, Turkish Airlines route network will encapsulate Washington D.C. Presently, five flights a week from Istanbul aboard A-330 aircraft shall fly. This makes Washington D.C. the Airlines' third gateway in the United States and fourth gateway in North America. Base of operations for this new service will be Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

LAN and TAM come together to create LATAM Airlines Group

LAN Airlines S.A. and TAM S.A. has ventured into a non-binding MOU. This MOU talks about their intentions to combine their holdings under a single parent entity. The handshake has created a new Latin American airline group which encapsulates Lan Airlines and its affiliates in Peru, Argentina and Ecuador; Lan Cargo and its affiliates; TAM Lineas Aereas S.A.; TAM Mercosur and all other holdings of LAN and TAM.

Latin American airline group would provide passenger services to more than 115 destinations in 23 countries and cargo services throughout Latin America and across most of the globe. With more than 40,000 employees, the airline would operate a fleet of more than 220 aircrafts. Travelers will benefit as more flights are introduced and frequent flyer program members would earn and redeem miles on more flights.

Marco Bologna, CEO of TAM said, “Combining our strengths and complementary networks will bring great benefits to our customers, employees, shareholders and Latin America. Together, LAN and TAM will be able to offer new destinations that neither company could have supported on its own. This will position us to compete with the foreign carriers that continue to increase service to our region while creating new jobs in our home countries.”

British Airways to launch new routes and expand service

British Airways is pleased to announce the launch of two new routes and the expansion of a number of existing services to flight schedule for 2011.

From February 19, 2011 British Airways will begin flying non-stop five days per week from London Heathrow to Haneda Airport (Tokyo International), In addition to current service to Narita Tokyo International Airport. New service to Haneda will offer customers more choice and greater flexibility to Tokyo.

From March 27, 2011, British Airways will plan to begin daily non-stop service between London Heathrow and Buenos Aires, first non-stop airline to fly from the UK to Argentina.

In addition, from March 26, 2011 British Airways also start non-stop service from Tampa to London Gatwick flights will operated daily and a number of Caribbean service will increase frequency, including Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia and Cancun.

Airberlin introduces nonstop flights from New York to Berlin

On September 21, 2011, Airberlin declared to commence nonstop service from New York to Berlin. Operation four times a week-Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday- it will begin on May 2, 2011.

Articulates Joachim Hunold, CEO Airberlin during the press conference in New York, “airberlin has committed to join the prime airline alliance oneworld in 2012 and will start offering codeshare flights with American Airlines as of November. For us, it therefore was another important step to further develop the long-haul market and enhance our network in the U.S.”

“The enlarged offer of flights to airberlin’s other German hub Düsseldorf is a further crucial element in preparation of becoming a full member of oneworld. Jointly with our partners from American Airlines we will soon be able to link our hubs on both sides of the Atlantic and further strengthen our position with flights under one codehare number," added Joachim Hunold.

Passenger from US can travel to Europe with flights via Berlin to Germany, the Nordic Countries, Switzerland and Austria. Then, it will offer flight from Berlin and Düsseldorf to the Big Apple throughout the year. On March 28, 2011 flights to German metropolis will start.

Manchester United boarded Turkish Airlines on their US 2010 Tour

Following a 3.5 year sponsorship agreement, Turkish Airlines was the team’s main carrier for the US 2010 Tour. The team flew direct to Chicago and then back from Mexico.  Prior to the flight, team and officials relaxed in the newly opened Escape Lounge in Terminal 1. The Club thanked the airlines for excellent services in the Manchester Airport also on the flight.

Air France spins out new business class

Air France showcased its new business class cabin. The airline has pumped in €110 million and offers 78 inches bed, which is one of the longest in the market.

With the help of a footrest, this lie-flat seat bed extends it length to over two meters in the bed position and is 61 centimeters wide. Passenger privacy is kept at a priority and thus shell structures are used. Lighter material and simple buttons make this new cabin environmental friendly. Also, the video screen has been widened to 15 inches offering a noise-reducing headset.  

Air France claims to be in a situation to pamper premium passengers during the recovery phase and thus it has invested in business class.
