has decided to introduce its electronic upgrade program called ‘eUpgrades’ in December 2010. The decision comes in the wake of overwhelming and consistent feedback from Super Elite or Top Tier members.
An official of the airline said that 2011 Select Privileges will now feature Air Canada eUpgrades. According to the new provision, if a member will choose eUpgrades as part of his/her Select Privileges a personal online account will be set up and eUpgrades Credits will be deposited there.
Starting December, the passengers will be able to manage and use their eUpgrade Credits for travel on any Air Canada or Air Canada Jazz flights for travel on/after March 1, 2011. The passengers will be able to book an upgrade to Executive Class or Executive First using the client’s eUpgrade Credits at Air Canada /agents. Besides, the passengers will be able to share their eUpgrade Credits with other travelers.
The airline further said that the clients’ current paper certificates will continue to remain valid up to February 28, 2011. If the passenger has confirmed a client upgrade for travel prior to this date, he/she will be required to present a valid Air Canada Top Tier upgrade certificate at the airport.

Continental Airlines has announced that it will launch nonstop flights between its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (PLS) starting February 18, 2011. This is, however, subject to government approval.
Providenciales will be Continental Airlines’ 26th Caribbean destination.
An official of the airline said that flights will operate four times a week – Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays – initially, but will convert to daily service from March 6, 2011.
According to schedule released by the company, the approximately three-and-a-half-hour flight (CO 610) will depart Newark at 9:35 a.m., arriving in Providenciales at 1:10 p.m. The return flight (CO 615) will depart Providenciales at 2:05 p.m., arriving in Newark at 5:45 p.m.
Continental Airlines will be using its 160-seat Boeing 737-800 for the new service, with 16 in First Class seats and 144 Economy Class seats.

American Airlines (AA) has decided to introduce new Saturday-only service from Chicago to Cozumel, Mexico beginning February 12 up to April 2, 2011. The flight will revert to America’s schedule in November 2011 for the winter season.
A top official said, “We’re very excited to be offering this new flight from Chicago O'Hare to Cozumel. Midwesterners enjoy traveling to Mexico and other sunny, warm destinations during the cold winter months, and this new flight will give them yet another location to enjoy.”
American Airlines will use its 160-seat 737-800 aircraft to fly on the new route. The aircraft offers 16 First Class seats and 144 Economy Class seats.
The airline also offers service to other destinations in Mexico from Chicago. The destinations include Acapulco, Cancun, San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. American Airlines will also start daily nonstop service to Mexico City from Chicago starting December 16.

(PAL) has decided to streamline its Australian operations. To begin with, flights to and from Brisbane would be temporarily suspended effective 31st October 2010.
An official of the airlines said that five times a week flights to Melbourne would be adjusted to four times weekly. However, flights to Sydney will remain unaffected with the usual five times weekly services. Passengers affected by the flight realignments would be properly intimated by PAL’s contact center and advised on the best options to proceed to their respective destinations, the official said.
The market conditions and the onset of the lean season made the airlines to effect necessary changes in the number of destinations and frequency of flights. The official, however, reiterated that Australia remains an important market for Philippine Airlines.

All Nippon Airways
(ANA) recently announced that it is extending Limited Biz Value, the popular Business Class special fares, until 17th November 2010. The departure period for the fares is from Nov 3 to Dec 10, 2010.
The airlines said that customers can book and purchase Limited Biz Value fare tickets from now up to 17th November. It would be over $1,200 cheaper to fly Business Class during weekdays with the special fares in comparison to the existing Biz Value fares. Going to Japan has become affordable now with reduced fuel surcharge effective October 1.
Here are some of the highlights of Limited Biz Value fares
- Price includes $111 per transpacific segment fuel surcharge and $6.40 insurance surcharge, but do not include government imposed taxes and fees of up to a maximum of $140, including the September 11 Security Fee.

Southwest Airlines recently announced that it will launch service to/from Charleston International Airport and Greenville-Spartanburg Airport in South Carolina on March 13, 2011.
An official press release said that Southwest will operate seven daily nonstop flights to four destinations. These include three flights to Baltimore/Washington, two to Chicago Midway, one to Nashville, and one to Houston Hobby. The carrier will operate from gate B5 in Charleston’s main terminal.
Southwest Airlines will begin service with seven daily nonstop flights to five destinations in Greenville-Spartanburg. The service includes two flights to Baltimore/Washington, two to Chicago Midway, one to Nashville, one to Houston Hobby, and one to Orlando. The carrier will operate from gates A3 and A4 in Greenville-Spartanburg’s main terminal.
Apart from seven daily nonstop flights to/from these cities, Southwest Airlines' new service will also offer direct or connecting service to more than 60 destinations including Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas Love, Sacramento, and Salt Lake City.
Southwest Airlines is currently serving 69 cities in 35 states.

After the recent merger of United Airlines and Continental Airlines, the newly-formed United Continental Holdings has announced ambitious plans to launch service on several new nonstop routes in 2011. The news flights would mark the beginning of the network optimization of the combined carrier after merger. Both the airlines would, however, continue to adhere to their respective previously announced capacity guidance even after new routes are added.
Greg Hart, United’s senior vice president network, said, “One of the key benefits of our merger is the ability to create a network that gives our customers more flight options,” and added “Numerous communities will gain service as we begin to capitalize on the opportunity to use our combined fleet more effectively.”
According to the official press release, Continental will add new flights between Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport and Bakersfield and Palm Springs, Calif.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Grand Junction, Colo.; Hobbs, N.M.; Montreal; and Reno, Nev. from Cleveland Hopkins International. The airlines will also begin flights to Cincinnati, Ohio. The carrier will also begin service to Des Moines, Iowa from New York/Newark Liberty.
United will start new service from Denver International Airport to Amarillo, Dallas Love Field and Lubbock, Texas; from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas and from San Francisco International Airport to New Orleans. Besides, United is planning new service from Washington Dulles International Airport to Louisville, Ky.; Minneapolis/St. Paul; Salt Lake City; Tulsa, Okla. and Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands. This is, however, subject to government approval.

introduces new class named ‘Comfort Class’. This new class will be added on along with the Economy Class, Business Class and First Class. The new Comfort class will be placed between the Economy Class and Business Class. The main purpose is to combine the convenience of business class with the reasonable purchasing rate of Economy Class. Turkish Airlines will begin to offer the Comfort Class on trunk routes to Beijing, Shanghay, Narita, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Sao Paulo and Toronto on its the new B777 aircraft upon their arrival. Depending on delivery time of the new B777s to join the fleet the Comfort class will be offered on the flights to New York, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles as well.
Comfort Class seat pitch of 116 cm and seat width of 49 cm are the leading features and individual display screens with the 10.6” in-arm screens embedded on each seats the passengers will be able watch as many films, serials, documentaries and cartoons as they wish while they can access the entire visual archives instantly.
