American Airlines sues Sabre & Travelport

by 18. January 2011 10:41
American Airlines has resorted to legal action suing the two companies, Sabre Holdings and Travelport, in the ongoing battle in Texas court. The airline has accused Sabre Holdings for increasing the ticket booking fees on their website without acknowledging the American Airlines.

“We believe these actions limit customer choice, and reduce efficiency that is critically important to agencies. By biasing its shopping displays, agents will be provided with the false impression that there are fewer choices to offer their clients, particularly in situations where American’s fares and schedules are superior to other airlines listed first,” said Derek De Cross, Vice President Sales, American Airlines.

The airlines also sued Travelport making allegation against the company for contractual obligations with the primary owner of online travel agency, Orbitz.

Sabre Holdings spokesperson Nancy St. Pierre, who remained firm on the decision of increased ticketing fees, said, “Sabre is confident that our actions are well within our contractual rights, and we will aggressively defend against American Airlines’ baseless claims to the contrary.”

The court after contesting the hearing granted American Airline’s request for interim relief that will remain in effect until the next proceedings when the Court considers the airline’s request for longer term relief.

Sabre Holdings has now been barred from hindering American’s agents and customers finding and buying American services in the Sabre global distribution system.

American Airlines is unyielding about the litigation process against Sabre and will seek compensation for the damages that were caused to the Airlines by violation of the terms of agreement between the two companies.

“We do not believe that Sabre has the right to take the actions that they are taking. As such, we will take appropriate actions to enforce our rights available to us and to provide you with more efficient access to our content,” said Mr DeCross.

Orbitz has been forced to stop selling American Airlines’ tickets after the judgment to remove all the content from the website.

The dispute of increase in ticket fees is continuing since the last year. It may be noted that Travelport has been threatening American Airlines to increase the booking fees, and also Expedia dropping the fares for American Airlines from its website early this year.

Dallas/ Fort Worth Airport now on Qantas Schedule

by 17. January 2011 07:00
Qantas Airways is expected to fly between Sydney and Dallas four times a week. As per the rumors the service between Sydney and Dallas will start from 16th May 2011. The service to Dallas is the result of withdrawal of flight service from the San Francisco Airport from 14th May 2011.

As per chief executive Alan Joyce statement, "Flying to DFW is an important step for Qantas as we expand and improve our international services".

Mike Boyd of the Boyd Group in Evergreen, Colo, called a deal as the successful mega-coup for D/FW Airport.

The Boeing 747-400Er aircraft will be used from Dallas/ Fort Worth Airport to Brisbane, Australia, and then to Sydney. The flight from Dallas will not fly directly but take some halt at Brisbane which is 276 miles away from Sydney but the return plane will from Sydney to Dallas will be a non-stop flight.

This would be the fifth longest nonstop flight covering 8,348 air miles. The Sydney to Dallas/ Fort Worth Airport covering 8,624 miles is the third longest and will takes around 17 hours to cover the enter journey.

The aircraft 747 will facilitate a total of 416 passengers with premium coach and a business class.

The torrential rains in Brisbane that flooded the city and the explosion of A 380 engine in November were the major cause of delay in the starting for the flight services.

According to the industrialist analyst the connectivity of Qantas to Dallas as will turn out to be a boon for the city.

This step of Qantas will give Dallas the connectivity with other 44 international destinations and 144 domestic cities. A total of USD 3.1 million will be given to Qantas by the airport that includes landing fees, terminal rents and other charges for two years. The incentive packages will also be extended to North Texas for its market efforts.

Covering Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York Dallas will be the first mid-continental stop.

"It's a game-changer for us," and "It opens up a whole new part of the world for us." said Jeff Fegan the chief executive, Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
