Air France launches new flight service to Orlando from Paris

Air France recently launched its new nonstop flight service to Orlando, its newest US gateway. The inaugural flight from Paris on June 7, 2011, was celebrated with much fanfare.

Mickey Mouse made a surprise appearance at terminal 2E at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport coming all the way from Disneyland Paris for the enjoyment of the passengers on the inaugural flight AF694. The Disney Paris band also accompanied Mickey Mouse.

The inaugural flight was greeted by a water cannon salute as it touched down in Orlando.

Patrick Roux, Senior Vice President of Air France and KLM for the Americas, said, “Customers will now be able to discover all that Paris, the most visited city in the world, has to offer from its world-renowned gastronomic history to its cultural offerings from fashion and shopping to design. In addition, customers will benefit from easy connections at Paris-Charles de Gaulle hub to Europe, Middle East and Africa.”

Air France in its official statement said that the new nonstop flights will operate three times per week in collaboration with Delta Air Lines.

EVA Air, Asiana Airlines introduce Codeshare Service between Taipei and Seoul

The EVA Air and Asiana Airlines recently introduced codeshare service between Taipei and Seoul. The two airlines have started operating 16 flights every week effective June 1, 2011.

The start of the service is aimed at making business travel more convenient and providing leisure travelers more choices for connecting flights between Taiwan and Korea.

Jet Airways to deploy Boeing 777-300ER on Mumbai-Hong Kong/Newark sectors

India’s leading carrier Jet Airways has said that it will deploy into service its long haul Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the Mumbai-Hong Kong/Newark sectors.

The airline is currently operating Airbus 330-200 aircraft on these sectors.

The wide-body Boeing 777-300ER will have eight First Class suites and 30 seats in the Première or Business Class, apart from several Economy Class seats.

Jet Airways in a statement said the First Class suites will possess the world’s longest airline beds, private closets, dining table for two and 23 inch flat screens. The airline disclosed that the seats in Business Class are most comfortable, and converts to 73 inch long totally flat beds.

“Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will begin its daily service on the Mumbai to Hong Kong route effective July 28, 2011. The aircraft change on the Mumbai to Newark, via Brussels, route will be effective September 23, 2011, twice a week (Fridays & Sundays only),” said a top Jet Airways official.

Turkish Airlines launches its first flight to Genoa

Turkish Airlines recently launched its first flight to Genoa on June 8, 2011.

Genoa is the fifth flight destination of Turkish Airlines in Italy. The other destinations include Rome, Milan, Venice and Bologna.

Initially, the airline will operate flights three times per week on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

However, Turkish Airlines plans to increase the flights to four times per week effective June 27, 2011, which will be operated on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The airline in a statement said that the Roundtrip airfares from Istanbul to Genoa will be on sale with the reduced prices starting from 199 Euros including taxes and fees for the travels starting before December 31, 2011.

Etihad Airways, American Airlines into new Frequent Flyer agreement

UAE flag carrier Etihad Airways and leading US carrier American Airlines recently announced their resolve to further strengthen their existing codeshare relationship, and offer their passengers the opportunity to earn frequent flyer miles on flights booked on each other’s networks.

The new frequent flyer agreement effective June 1, 2011, is enabling members of Etihad Airways’ Etihad Guest frequent flyer program and American Airlines’ AAdvantage program to earn miles on their respective eligible flights.

Later this year, both the airlines are considering expanding the agreement to include mileage redemption across the two airlines’ networks.

The codeshare agreement had been in place since August 2009 between Etihad Airways and American Airlines, and delivers a combined codeshare network of more than 50 destinations worldwide.

The top officials of both the airlines have expressed happiness and satisfaction over the new frequent flyer agreement.

James Hogan, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said, “A key strength in Etihad’s growth has been the strategic development of our airline partnerships. American Airlines has a wide-reaching destination network. Through our new frequent flyer agreement, I look forward to providing a more rewarding travel experience for AAdvantage members on our network, as well as offering more opportunities to earn miles for the valued members of the Etihad Guest program.”

American Airline’s Chief Commercial Officer Virasb Vahidi said, “We are pleased to announce our frequent flyer partnership with Etihad, an airline that offers our customers the choice of flying to destinations across the Middle East.”

Delta Air Lines re-launches nonstop Atlanta-Shanghai service

Leading US carrier Delta Air Lines re-launched its nonstop service between Atlanta and Shanghai effective June 5, 2011. The flight service will operate twice a week on 269-seat Boeing 777 aircraft.

Earlier, Delta Air Lines first launched its service between Atlanta and Shanghai in 2008. However, the service was suspended due to economic slowdown.

Apart from resumed Atlanta-Shanghai service, the airline will start nonstop flights between Detroit and Beijing effective July 1, 2011.

Currently, Delta Air Lines is offering service from Beijing to Seattle and Tokyo-Narita; Shanghai to Detroit and Tokyo-Narita; and Hong Kong to Detroit and Tokyo-Narita.

In recent years, the airline has significantly expanded its operations into China, and will be operating 47 weekly flights out of China this summer.

Quite recently, the Delta Air Lines on June 1, 2011, announced a new codeshare agreement with China Eastern, one of China’s largest international airlines. With this new codeshare agreement, the US customers are now able to enjoy convenient connecting service in Shanghai to more than 20 cities throughout China.

Vinay Dube, Senior Vice President – Asia Pacific of Delta Air Lines, said, “By resuming service between Atlanta and Shanghai, we’re continuing our strategy of connecting the world’s most important business markets. Nonstop service between these key global cities will mean more opportunities for economic development and job growth in Delta’s hometown of Atlanta as well as in Shanghai.”

Iberia to be official and preferred airline for Spanish Football Federation till 2014

Leading Spanish carrier Iberia has been designated as the official and preferred airline for the Spanish Football Federation until the end of 2014.

The move follows the recent trade agreement between Iberia and the Real Federation Española de Fútbol (Royal Spanish Football Federation). The agreement also underlines the importance of air transport to sports activities.

According to the agreement, Iberia will be carrying Federation personnel and arrange its special flights for next year’s European Cup and the Confederation Cup events in 2013.

Earlier, Iberia flew the Spanish national side to and from the World Cup tourney in South Africa, which was won by the Spanish players.

South African Airways unveil “South Africa on Sale” flight fares from New York, Washington DC

South Africa’s flag carrier South African Airways (SAA) recently launched its special “South Africa on Sale” fares on its flights from New York or  Washington, D.C. (Dulles) to Johannesburg or Cape Town aimed at boosting tourism.

The fares would be starting at just US$1,080 (plus taxes and fees) for departures from September 13 to December 10, 2011. The fares also include fuel surcharge, and are now available for purchase through June 21.

According to the South African Airways, travel for the “South Africa on Sale” fares require a 5-day minimum stay, and allow a maximum stay of 12 months. Low add-on fares are also available from other US cities.

SAS to launch Copenhagen-Shanghai service in March 2012

The Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced that it will be launching its new Copenhagen-Shanghai service effective March 1, 2012. The service to be operated five-day a week will connect European destinations such as London, Munich, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, Vienna and the Baltic capitals to Shanghai.

The airline said that the largest aircraft in the SAS fleet Airbus A340-300 will serve the Copenhagen-Shanghai route.

Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer of SAS, said, “The demand for traffic to China is again growing significantly and we see the need for an additional route, complementing our successful Copenhagen-Beijing and other Asian routes. This new service also offers a multitude of smooth transfers on both ends, making it an accessible and quick route for many European and Asian travelers.”

TAP Portugal launches non-stop Miami-Lisbon service

The Portuguese flagship carrier TAP Portugal recently launched non-stop flights between Miami and Lisbon starting June 6, 2011. The airline started the four weekly nonstop flights to boost its presence at Miami International Airport.

The new flights on Miami-Lisbon route will be in addition to the TAP Portugal’s existing service between Newark and the two Portuguese cities of Lisbon and Porto. The new route will also significantly strengthen the airline’s presence and expansion in North America.

TAP Portugal’s Miami-Lisbon route will also be the shortest transatlantic crossing of any carrier to Europe (taking only 8 hours). Besides, with the introduction of its non-stop Miami-Lisbon service TAP Portugal is also providing the South Florida market non-stop access to its modern hub airport of Lisbon. TAP Portugal is also able to offer connections to all major destinations in Europe from Lisbon without having to geographically ‘backtrack’.
