Allegiant Air earns profit for tenth year in a row

Allegiant Air, the low cost American airline has achieved the accomplishment of earning profits for tenth year in a row. The airline attained this milestone beating the volatile economy and fluctuating jet fuel prices.

Nevada based airline operates scheduled and chartered flights on 136 routes across the United States. Allegiant Air flights ferry passengers from small cities to holiday destinations in the country, its USP. The airline attributes its unconventional and niche routes as the reason for its success over these years.

The airline has diversified business interests in hotels, car rentals, show tickets and other leisure activities under the parent company Allegiant Travel Co. The airline also makes use of its additional business entities to earn millions in revenues via commissions.

It however, charges its customers for booking tickets online or using a credit card. Booking ones favorite seat in advance may cost the customers’ anywhere between $5 and $75, subjected to the flight duration. A bottle of water on Allegiant Air flight costs about $2.

The airline has been following this business model to earn profits and has done that tenth time in a row sending strong signals to competitors.

Asiana Airlines to continue offering flights to Philippines

Asiana Airlines flights will continue to be operated into the Philippines despite the recent crash of one of its aircrafts at San Francisco International Airport. The South Korean carrier is currently offering services to Manila, Cebu and Clark.

Media reports said that air safety officials of Philippines are waiting for the results of the investigation into the crash at San Francisco. The airline has been allowed to conduct flights into the country pending investigation outcome.

John Andrews, Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, said that if the investigation points out to Boeing 777 of Asiana Airlines as the cause of the crash then this would have negative implications for the aircraft maker Boeing Co. as well as the airlines operating such aircrafts. He said that if this aircraft’s malfunctioning is finally established then there is great possibility of Boeing 777 aircrafts being grounded worldwide.

SilkAir to start direct operations on Singapore-Semarang route

SilkAir, the subsidiary of Singapore Airlines will operate direct flights to Semarang from Singapore beginning July 29, 2013. Semarang is the capital of Central Java and one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Indonesia.

The airline announced that it will fly Airbus 319 and A320 aircrafts thrice a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Singapore-Semarang route. These planes will be available for both business class seats as well as economy class passengers.

This flight is set to benefit those tourists who do not wish to stop in Jakarta to board a transit flight to the city. 

Passengers who wish to explore the riches of Semarang like the Borobudur temple, diving destination of Karimunjawa and other cities on the island can now book cheap airfares with the carrier.

The airline also has plans to start direct flights from Singapore to Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi from August 1, 2013. SilkAir operates out of its hub at Singapore Changi Airport.

JetBlue follows first checked-in bag free policy

JetBlue Airways Corporation popularly known as JetBlue has some good news for its customers. While every other airline is in the lookout to cut costs and pass on the burden to its customers, JetBlue stands out in its own way.

The Long Island City based airline follows a very passenger friendly baggage policy. A lot of airlines these days charge for every bag that is up for check-in. However, at JetBlue you don’t have to pay for the first bag which means it will be checked-in free of cost.

It is a good idea for passengers to book cheap airfares with the budget airline and enjoy the additional reward of carrying their first baggage free. It is just that passengers have to follow certain rules set by the airline.

As per their policy the bag must not exceed 62” (157.5 cm) in overall size (length + width + height) and must not weigh more than 50 pounds (22.73 kilos). None of the boxes on the international flights will be accepted as checked baggage.

The airline also allows its passengers to carry personal items like purse, briefcase or laptop and one carry-on bag. The personal item should fit under the seat and not exceed 18” L (45.72cm) x 15” W (38/1cm) x 8”H (20.32cm).

Emirates to start daily A380 service to Mauritius from Dubai

Emirates, largest carrier in the Middle East has announced to launch A380 daily service to Mauritius from Dubai. The carrier will replace one of the existing Boeing 777-300 on the route. It is set to launch this new service on December 16, 2013.

Passengers can enjoy world class services on their business class tickets onboard Emirates new flight to the island nation from this year end. The airline will continue to operate on a double daily basis to Mauritius.

Thierry Antinori, Emirates’ Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer said that it is moment of pride for the airline on being able to serve the tourist destination of Mauritius daily. He added that it is the first country in the Indian Ocean which will receive an Emirates flight every day.

The airline is believed to take this decision to meet the growing demand from leisure travelers to the scenic locales of the island nation.

Fiji Airways to launch international service to Los Angeles

Fiji Airways, the flag carrier of Fiji announced that it held a special event at Los Angeles International Airport to celebrate the launch of A330 service to the city. The airline said it will operate direct flights to the American city six times a week.

Fiji is a popular tourist destination and receives a lot of American tourists. The airline is said to have increased the frequency of its flights to meet the growing traffic. The airline has plans to operate seven flights a week from December this year and further raise the number to eight during peak season.

Customers can book their business class seats on Fiji Airways and travel direct to one of these destinations. The airline has revamped its in-flight décor. It also aims at giving its customers a luxurious experience and therefore has added new meal options, crockery and linen for the long distance flight.

The airline has its hub at Nadi International Airport.

Copa Airlines announces flight service to Florida

Copa Airlines, subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A. announced the launch of its nonstop service from Panama City to Tampa, Florida beginning December 16, 2013. The carrier will operate four weekly flights to Tampa, its ninth U.S. and 66th overall destination.

Copa will operate a Boeing 737-700 plane with 12 business class and 112 economy class seating capacity. On board amenities include complementary meals, beverages including wine, 12 channel audio video entertainment system in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

As per the schedule, flights will leave Panama on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The return flights will take off from Tampa on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Joe Mohan, Copa Airlines’ Senior Vice President, Commercial and Planning said that the airline is pleased to offer nonstop service to Tampa Bay. He further added that this will give Tampa residents an opportunity to connect and explore business and leisure places across Latin America.

It is a good time for the passengers to book airline tickets with Copa and travel to either of the cities nonstop.

Frontier to end free TV service to its elite frequent fliers

Frontier Airlines, American low cost carrier has announced its decision to end free TV service to its elite frequent fliers. At present Frontier’s elite Ascent and Summit frequent fliers do not pay for using the airlines in-flight television.

The news about Frontier’s latest resolution is shocking for all the customers who have until now used the on board TV free. This set of customers will no longer be entitled to the privileged service that comes with Frontier’s plane tickets.
 
Kate O'Malley, Spokeswoman for Frontier Airlines confirmed the news. She added that the airline is revisiting its product offerings and the cost associated with each service benefit.

The new change will be effective on all flights departing from August 1, 2013 onwards. The Denver based carrier will charge $3.99 for two-hour or shorter flights, $5.99 for flights between two and three and a half hours and $7.99 for flights longer than three and a half hours.

Frontier operates out of its hub at Denver International Airport.

Allegiant Air announces flight service on Austin-Las Vegas route

Allegiant Air, the low cost American airline announced nonstop flight service on the Austin-Las Vegas route beginning October 31, 2013. This is a good opportunity for passengers flying to one of these destinations to book cheap flight tickets at the time of its inauguration.

As per the announcement the new flights are scheduled to depart from Austin on Thursday, Friday and Sunday at 1:05 pm and arrive at Las Vegas at 1:55 pm. The return flight is set to leave Las Vegas at 7:25 am and touchdown Austin at 12 pm. All times mentioned is CST.

On Mondays, the flight will take off from Austin at 8 pm and land in Las Vegas at 8:50 pm. The return flights will depart Las Vegas at 2:45 pm and arrive in Austin at 7:20 pm.

Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President said that the company is pleased to bring a new, affordable and convenient travel option to the residents of Austin. He added that they are confident that Austin community will appreciate the nonstop flight service to Vegas in less time.
