Lufthansa to offer onboard phone service this year

by amit.uniyal 14. February 2014 09:02

Deutsche Lufthansa AG or Lufthansa has pleasant news for its travelers. It is set to pave way for the use of mobile phones onboard its flights this year. The news comes as a surprise to the travelers as Europe’s largest airline will allow the use of this service on its flights on more than 100 aircrafts operating its long-distance flights.

The airline believes to stay ahead in competition and hence is innovating different means to put its best foot forward. The latest announcement has spread a wave of joy and happiness amongst its travelers. Once the service is incorporated, passengers will be able to use their personal devices in the flight. They can use their mobile handsets to make calls and send text messages even when they are flying 30,000 feet above ground. The thrill and excitement is hence uncontainable.

The German airline already has its Lufthansa Flynet system in place. It has teamed up with Aeromobile, GSM supplier for this service. In fact, the airline has already fitted the Flynet system on eight of its Airbus A330 airlines.

The airline has already received its Boeing 747-8 Dreamliner equipped with the Aeromobile system. The delivery was received at Frankfurt airport. The Aeromobile system will allow the passengers to use their mobile devices in roaming mode just like the way it would work on the ground. The airline has collaborated with more than 240 mobile service providers for the roaming arrangements. The passengers will soon benefit from the latest offering from the major German airline in the coming times.

Lufthansa to debut premium economy in Nov 2014

by Richa 13. December 2013 05:44

Lufthansa, the commercial carrier of Germany is excited about the launch of its premium economy cabins onboard its flights next year. The airline is gearing to debut the new class on its planes in November 2014.

The airline, which operates service as the largest European airline has given a sneak peak into the much talked about premium economy. The airline is set to unveil the new seats in this section at the ITB fair in Berlin in March next year. It then plans to launch these seats on its long haul flights from November onwards. The airline has not yet confirmed the route that will debut this class.

As per the airline, though premium economy seats are a little different from their economy counterparts they will be fitted with the economy class rather than a separate class on its flights. Reports suggest that the airline has ordered these seats from German seat manufacturer ZIM Flugsitz GmbH. The airline has also not confirmed if there is going to be a divider separating economy from premium economy class. These seats will however, be classified as economy seats and will not get benefits like dedicated check-ins. The airline intends to introduce several changes to its planes in the coming two years. Apart from this launch, the airline is also set to introduce fresh First Class. It is also ready to change the seating arrangements on its A340-300 and B747-400 aircrafts into two-class.

Lufthansa sees Qatar as fastest growing market for premium travel

by Richa 8. October 2013 07:04
Germany’s flagship carrier Lufthansa is currently witnessing a remarkable growth in Qatar. The airline, which has reported a steady passenger growth in the Doha-Frankfurt sector over the past few years, said that it is seeing Qatar emerging as one of the fastest growing markets for premium travel in the GCC countries. Media reports quoted a Lufthansa official as saying that 2011 was the most successful year for the airline in Qatar. Lufthansa is a leading carrier in Europe presently.

According to Lufthansa, the airline carried more than 70,000 passengers to and from Germany and beyond in 2012. The airline said that it registered a huge increase of more than 40 percent last year as compared to 2011. The airline further said that the number of passenger arrivals to Doha for business or leisure purposes was an all time high. This significantly strengthened the airline’s service, which operates daily nonstop flights between Doha and Frankfurt with the help of an Airbus A340 aircraft. With such a fantastic increase now, Lufthansa wants to expand its Doha service further.

Carsten Schaeffer, Lufthansa’s Vice President Sales & Service, South East Europe, Middle East and Africa, said that Qatar has developed as one of the fastest growing markets for premium travel in the GCC nations. He said that the growth in first class passenger numbers is particularly impressive, with the volume nearly doubled within one year. This testifies that the airline’s strategy to invest into brand new First and Business Class products as well as the world’s only dedicated First Class Terminal has been finally paying off.

Lufthansa is to begin serving a new destination in Africa. From November 3, 2010, Lufthansa will begin service between Frankfurt and Pointe Noire in the Republic of Congo with convenient connections from North American gateways. Pending regulatory approval, the airline will offer five flights weekly using a PrivatAir - operated Boeing 737-800. Karl-Ulrich Garnadt - Executive Vice President Services and Human Resources at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines noted “The new flight to Pointe Noire is a further step forward in our growth strategy in Africa”. “The dynamic, economic region in West and Central Africa is a key area in the development of the Lufthansa route network“. Lufthansa currently serves West Africa with a total of 33 weekly connections to Abuja, Accra, Lagos, Libreville, Luanda, Malabo and Port Harcourt; an additional 12 destinations are operated by SWISS and Brussels Airlines.

The port of Pointe Noire, the major commercial centre of the Republic of the Congo, is home to nearly 700,000 of the country’s total population of around four million. The oil industry, a key factor in the economy of the West African Republic, accounts for about 90 per cent of export earnings. Economic growth in 2010 is expected to be around ten percent.

Passengers on board PrivatAir flights will enjoy all the benefits of the Lufthansa long-haul product. Among the perks in Business Class is a highly topical in-flight entertainment selection, delicious in-flight menus created by Star Chefs, and an array of amenities that provide a comfortable work environment.
