Delta Air Lines re-launches nonstop Atlanta-Shanghai service

by 15. June 2011 11:28
Leading US carrier Delta Air Lines re-launched its nonstop service between Atlanta and Shanghai effective June 5, 2011. The flight service will operate twice a week on 269-seat Boeing 777 aircraft.

Earlier, Delta Air Lines first launched its service between Atlanta and Shanghai in 2008. However, the service was suspended due to economic slowdown.

Apart from resumed Atlanta-Shanghai service, the airline will start nonstop flights between Detroit and Beijing effective July 1, 2011.

Currently, Delta Air Lines is offering service from Beijing to Seattle and Tokyo-Narita; Shanghai to Detroit and Tokyo-Narita; and Hong Kong to Detroit and Tokyo-Narita.

In recent years, the airline has significantly expanded its operations into China, and will be operating 47 weekly flights out of China this summer.

Quite recently, the Delta Air Lines on June 1, 2011, announced a new codeshare agreement with China Eastern, one of China’s largest international airlines. With this new codeshare agreement, the US customers are now able to enjoy convenient connecting service in Shanghai to more than 20 cities throughout China.

Vinay Dube, Senior Vice President – Asia Pacific of Delta Air Lines, said, “By resuming service between Atlanta and Shanghai, we’re continuing our strategy of connecting the world’s most important business markets. Nonstop service between these key global cities will mean more opportunities for economic development and job growth in Delta’s hometown of Atlanta as well as in Shanghai.”
