Start May with some serious surfing at Billabong Rio Pro from May 8th to 19th; this surfing championship is reputed worldwide and is a must-attend if you love the sport. If you’ve grown up watching Walt Disney’s cartoons, you’ll love the Disney on Ice show from May 9th to 12th featuring various Disney favorites in costumes, doing wonders on ice. If you want taste the best of Brazil’s rich cuisine, be there between May 31st and June 9th for the Rio Bom de Mesa, the food festival that showcases Brazil’s authentic cuisine. On 30th May, the Corpus Christi festival is observed throughout Brazil; roads are decorated and streets are lined with colorful carpets over which processions pass.

Watch the Change of Guards event at the WWII Memorial on June 3rd; this is a significant ritual in Rio. Be here to celebrate Brazil’s version of Valentine’s Day, the Day of the Enamored on June 12th, a celebration of love and romance to honor Saint Anthony, the patron saint of lovers. Another Saint, John the Baptist, has his own special day, June 24th, celebrated in Rio as the Festa Junina; with country music, a traditional dance and special festival food, this festival will offer an insider view of Brazilian culture. June 15th to 30th will see a lot of action at the Maracana Stadium; the much awaited FIFA Confederations Cup Finals will be held here. Watch the people of Brazil revel in the combat of their favorite sport.
