Mumbai - The City of Seven Islands Tied to a Million Hearts

Originally a bunch of 7 islands, largely inhabited by fisher folk, Mumbai gets its name from Mumbadevi, the area’s chief goddess. Known as Kolis, the fisher folk in Mumbai are the oldest inhabitants of the city. Under the British rule, these islands were of little value and were, thus, ceded to the Portuguese in 1534 by the Sultan of Gujarat. For the Portuguese, who had named it Bombay (or Good Bay), the name of the city had little bearing. It was the Portuguese who, in fact, gave away the city as dowry to Catherine when she married England's King Charles II in 1661 for a paltry sum. Ask your travel agents for flight tickets and get best airline tickets to visit this city.

For its share of history, Mumbai has seen several upheavals before it ousted most others in becoming one of the most prestigious and pivotal centers for trade. A blend of traditional festivals, food and diverse lifestyles, the city’s culture thrives harmoniously through its multi-faceted approach towards life.  A city that lives on despite its painful past, Mumbai’s untiring spirit of live and let live makes it insanely popular amongst any other city across the globe. A phenomenon that connects itself to Mumbai’s popularity is the flourishing film industry above all things. Churning over 800 feature films annually, Mumbai also has a nickname, Bollywood; better known as Bombay’s Hollywood! And where there is entertainment, can rejoicing be far behind? Its glorious past aside, Mumbai rules the nightlife; a fact that has earned it the tagline of the city that never sleeps! Visitors coming here come using services offered by several flights to Mumbai. Nowadays, cheap flights to Mumbai are also available.

If you are looking at exploring Mumbai’s glorious night spots, make sure you add a few popular joints to your itinerary. For the budget traveler there is Mocha at Juhu Tara Road. It is a place where you are sure to find some solace within your budget. Alternatively, you could opt for its southern branch that is located near the famous Churchgate. Mocha is actually a coffee shop that doubles up as a relaxation center with comfortable interiors, coffee and a selection of wines. Open until the wee hours of the morning, Mocha is conveniently located at Bandra. Close to Mocha, there is also Escobar on Linking Road. It is a bar that embraces the hippest youngsters in town. Escobar claims to have the longest bar in Mumbai. The intriguing bit about Mumbai is that it has lounges and bars to suit everyone’s wallet. Aurus is one such bar built on similar concept. Aurus offers you the Juhu Beach as its backdrop. It is a lounge high on romance; you can also fancy yourself with a canopied four-poster bed to drink and dine on.  But in case you are looking for a sensational rooftop bar, you should choose the Dome at the InterContinental Hotel. A good option for some much sought-after exclusivity is Aer at the Four Seasons Hotel. For added a luxurious backdrop, you could also try out the ‘Wink’ at the Taj President Hotel.

Besides the best lounges and bars, there is lot to discover amongst Mumbai’s versatile markets, town halls, University buildings, beaches, museums, bazaars and historical buildings that have stood the test of time. So the next time you gear up to visit Mumbai, make sure that it is a well drafted travel itinerary because Mumbai makes you ask for more and book cheap tickets to Mumbai!
