Iberia partners with Samsung to develop smartwatch boarding pass

Thanks to smartphones and tablets for making the lives of air travelers much easy and hassle free. Now, here’s yet another similar technology that adds to the growing list of gadgets that promises to make air travel world over a breeze.

Spanish carrier Iberia recently announced that it has entered into a partnership with smartphones and electronic gadgets maker Samsung that will bring the boarding passes straight to the customers’ wrist watches.

Yes, you have guessed it right! Whether you might be traveling to the United States or any other part of the world, now wearable boarding passes will soon become a reality with smartwatches making foray into peoples’ lives gradually.

A spokesperson of Iberia said that a feature is being developed by Samsung which will enable passengers to directly download their boarding pass to their Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch. The air travelers instead of making frantic search of their boarding passes in their carry-on bags will be just required to flash their smartwatches in front of the scanners.`

Iberia said that it is currently trying to work on updated version of its app for Android-enabled smartphones. This will prove to be beneficial to the passengers as they will be able to automatically download their boarding passes to their Samsung Gear 2 smartwatches when using their smartphone for check-in.

Other airlines such as Airberlin and Vueling are successfully using wearable technologies for displaying boarding passes. Airberlin customers wearing Pebble Steel or Pebble smartwatch are required to only shake their wrist signaling the device to show their boarding pass which can be later on scanned similar to that of a digital boarding pass in a smartphone.
