Qantas Airways planning new lounges in Auckland and Brisbane

Qantas Airways has announced it is planning to build a brand new lounge at New Zealand’s Auckland Airport. This will be a part of the international lounge network program of the airline.

The airline also indicated that it is planning for a revamp of the first class and business class lounges at Brisbane Airport in Australia. The Brisbane Airport is presently the third busiest airport in Australia and the major international airport serving the cities of Brisbane and South East Queensland.

Kylie Morris, Qantas Airways' Head of Customer Experience, said that the airline has recently opened new lounges at Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Singapore, and is now looking forward to assess similar requirements at other destinations it operates in future.

Morris said that Auckland is presently the highly popular destination in the airline’s international network because of the high trans-Tasman traffic. The airline’s competitor Virgin Australia along with its partner Air New Zealand has upgraded its own lounge at Auckland Airport.

Morris further said that Qantas Airways is also actively considering building its own lounges and is open to “strategic investment” in this regard. She also said that the airline will look at other options as well where it is feasible. The airline could also make use of the existing lounges being currently operated by its Oneworld partners.

According to the airline, this option proved to be highly successful with the Los Angeles Business Lounge, which came into being as a joint venture between Qantas Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways and British Airways.
