American Airlines is flying fewer flights to Venezuela

American Airlines is flying fewer flights between US and Venezuela from July 2, 2014. The number of flights will be reduced to 10 per week from 48.

Passengers are facing lots of difficulty to find a seat on a flight to Venezuela. The flights are now reduced by 80 percent. Thus only 10 flights remain that operates from Miami, which has the largest Venezuelan community in the United States. The routes from Texas, New York, and San Juan de Puerto Rico are being cancelled by AA.

In June this year, four daily flights were being offered by American Airlines on the Miami-Caracas route, which now is decreased to one, with twice weekly flights to Maracaibo and one extra on Saturdays..

The airline is waiting to recover an outstanding amount of $750 million from Venezuelan Government. Till the debts are recovered the airline will continue with the decreased number of flights. As per AA spokesperson, Venezuela was the first South American country to be operated by the airline. This year AA has completed 25 years of its service to the country.

Venezuela is an oil rich South American country. Currently it is facing major economic crises and its dollar reserves are decreasing. So the country is decreasing its fleet in order to save the hard currency it owes to AA for the sale of tickets.

Delta Airlines has also decided to decrease the number of flights to Venezuela from August 1, 2014. The reason being the same that is cash is being trapped in the country. The airline will reduce its offering to once weekly from once daily between Atlanta and Caracas. Delta airlines have provided service to Venezuela for 15 years. The slicing of flights by airline companies will further isolate Venezuela.
