American Airlines replacing B757-200 with A321 on Hawaiian routes

Narrow-body Airbus aircrafts are being gradually adopted on Hawaiian routes. Earlier, it was Virgin America which became the first airline in the United States to operate Airbus A321 to Hawaii. Now, American Airlines has decided to follow suit and will be conducting flights to Honolulu utilizing the same aircraft.

Media reports said that American Airlines will be gradually phasing out its Boeing 757-200 aircrafts on some of the Hawaiian routes starting from August 2015. The airline will instead conduct flights services with the help of Airbus A321 aircrafts, configured with a 2-cabin layout.

The reports said that Airbus A321 aircrafts will have sharklets for increasing range. The aircraft will however have some weight restrictions in some cases because of shorter runways on some islands in the State of Hawaii.

American Airlines is presently operating at least 10 flights daily with the help of Boeing 757-200 aircrafts from Los Angeles to Hawaiian destinations. The airline will, however, shifting its operations fully to the Airbus A321 aircrafts by the end of 2015.

The reports further indicated that the Boeing 757-200 aircrafts being currently flown from Los Angeles will be moved to Phoenix.  The airline wants to replace the older Boeing 757-200 aircrafts being presently operated by US Airways to Phoenix.

US Airways, which has now merged with American Airlines, said that it presently owns eight Boeing 757 aircrafts dating back of the 1995-1999 era. These aircrafts are believed to be the oldest in the combined American Airlines Group fleet. The company is now working on a strategy to retire these aircrafts from its fleet. United Airlines is also working on plans to retire its oldest Boeing 757 aircrafts from operations.
