American Airlines reports 4 percent increase in September revenue
Leading U.S. carrier American Airlines recently announced its operational results for the month of September this year. The airline was elated at the positive outcome.
The airline in a statement said that it would have even earned more revenues had its flights not reported much delays and cancellations.
The airline disclosed that its passenger revenue per available seat mile increased 4 percent this September as compared to the same month a year earlier.
The increase in revenue had been despite the 3.9 percent decline in the number of passengers boarding American Airlines flights and those on its affiliate regional carriers last month.
The airline had expected a 4.4 percent increase in its revenue, the outcome of which was impacted because of delayed and canceled flights in the second half of September.
American Airlines had in recent weeks been forced to cancel hundreds of flights because of increased pilot maintenance reports and sick leave usage. The airline is currently facing turmoil and is trying to negotiate a labor contract with the pilot’s union.
