Drury Hotels mulling new property in downtown Pittsburgh mid-2016

Drury Hotels is planning to launch its new property in downtown Pittsburgh in mid-2016. The hotel officials recently discussed their proposal with the Pittsburgh Planning Commission and indicated that they would be converting the former Federal Reserve building situated on Grant Street into a new hotel under Drury Hotels brand.

Kevin Whitfield, Senior Vice President of Design, Development and Construction for Drury Hotels, while providing the details said that the construction of the new hotel is expected to begin in early 2015. The new hotel will be built at an estimated cost of $30 million. The construction of the new property is expected to be completed within 16 to 20 months. The hotel is expected to be opened in mid-2016.

Whitfield said that it’s a matter of great excitement to work on the new project as the new building would be majestic. The new hotel will have increased number of rooms from 180 to 206. After the exploratory demolition undertaken within the former Federal Reserve building it was assessed that there would more space available for expansion thus resulting in the increase in the number of rooms.

According to Whitfield, the project envisages plans to convert the vaults in the 1930s-era structure into banquet rooms. A swimming pool and a rooftop deck would also be constructed on the top of the building.

Drury Hotels is now trying to get the former Federal Reserve building registered as an historic property. This would help in protecting the most historic features of the building as well as make it eligible for 20 percent historic tax credits.
