El Al increases baggage and seating upgrade fees

Israel’s national flag carrier El Al recently announced it will be increasing the fees for the second piece of baggage on its long-haul flights after the Jewish holiday season ends.

The airline in a statement said that it is taking this decision adhering to the present aviation industry norms. The price for the second piece of baggage will be increased by 42 percent.

Earlier, the passengers booking air tickets to international destinations had to pay a fee of $70 each way for the second piece of baggage, which is being now increased to $100. The new fees will become effective from November 1, 2012 and will be applicable on Economy Class passengers when booking flights to North America, South Africa and the Far East.

El Al also stated that the baggage benefit of 140 points each way being currently used by frequent flier members will also be upgraded from 140 points to 200 points each way effective November 1 this year.

The fares for upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class are also being increased by the airline on all destinations.
