A new technology has been developed by door lock vendors. This new technology will turn your smartphones into hotel keys. The hotel industry has latched up to the idea and has even started experimenting with it.

According to the new technology, the guests will be asked to download a smartphone app through which the keys will be activated. This new technology seems to be fairly simple. The guests will be able to check in through the new app. The hotel will provide the room numbers through this app and transform the smartphones into virtual keys. The guests will no longer be required to wait at the front desk for the keys. The sensors in the door of the hotel room will be able to detect as well as verify the smartphone through technology like Bluetooth LE.

The Starwood Hotels and Resorts in the United States, has already started experimenting with the virtual keys on Androids and iPhones at its properties in New York and California. The experiments are being presently conducted at Aloft Cupertino in California as well as Aloft Harlem in New York. The Starwood Hotels and Resorts is planning to roll out virtual keys to its other hotel brands as well in 2015.
