JetBlue, Air France to upgrade inflight meals in economy class

Though passengers traveling in economy class have to make do with less space in comparison to the premium cabin fliers, there’s good news for them at least on the inflight dining front. Nowadays some airlines have decided to make significant changes in menus being offered on board the flights, which will of course come for a fee. The perceptible changes in economy class are being brought by JetBlue Airways and Air France.

JetBlue Airways, a New York-based carrier, was in the news for adding the luxury ‘Mint’ premium cabins for business class customers launched two years ago. The business class product is now being expanded further. The airline despite offering better amenities and seats for its premium customers managed to keep its focus on its “Core” economy class customers by keeping their usual benefits intact. The airline is offering a seat pitch of 33-inch in economy class, which is considered to be the best so far in U.S. domestic airline industry.

According to recent media reports, JetBlue Airways has even moved beyond this as well. The airline has now decided to provide the yummy Beecher’s Cheese Plate to customers traveling in coach class. This is being offered as part of the airline’s “Eat Up Fresh” food menu program. The new on board meals will be offered to only those traveling in the Main Cabin for a fee. The menu has become so popular that even the premium customers in Mint service have also started demanding it as well.

Air France has also decided to emulate JetBlue Airways and follow suit. The airline will be offering a dining up-sell option to its long-haul customers departing from Paris. The “A la Carte” service of the airline will now be available for customers traveling in economy class and premium economy cabins. The service can however be availed after the meals are pre-order at least 24 hours prior to departure.
