Madrid Bullfights- The Tradition of Spain

Sep 16, 2011

Just about anything a traveler can dream of is located in Madrid --including bullfighting. Bullfighting in Spain is not like the Hollywood version. In fact, bullfighting is a very respected tradition and integral part of the Spanish culture. Madrid is one of the more popular locations for bullfighting in Spain and is the best place to catch a live fight. Since tourists on flights to Madrid do not know about the city’s popular sport, the crowds at these events are typically locals.

Where to Go
Madrid is the host of two famous bullfighting rings: Vista Alegre and Las Ventas. Las Ventas is typically the site where tourists on cheap flights to Madrid will go for bullfighting. This venue can hold over 20,000 guests at a single time and is the host to several famous bullfighters. Las Ventas is where the majority of bullfights occur in Madrid, while overflow fights are hosted in Vista Alegre.

Travelers coming in on airline tickets for cheap do not need to order tickets ahead of time for fights at Vista Alegre, however they may want to check the schedule. Though Vista Alegre hosts numerous bullfights throughout the year, it has now become a popular venue for concerts and local events. Travelers should check schedules at both Vista Alegre and Las Ventas, which will not only help determine which bullfight to see, but hotels to select since both locations are located on opposite ends of the city.

Bullfight Schedule

Starting in mid-May until October, also known as part of the San Isidro Festival, the bullfights take place weekly every Sunday. Bullfights start at 7:00 PM sharp and showcase one featured fighter and then a string of amateur fighters throughout the night. The length of the bullfights will vary, but travelers coming in on flight tickets cheap to see the fights can expect a few hours at the venue.

Travelers coming in on cheap flight tickets for the last three weeks of May and early June will be there for the prime time of the San Isidro Festival. During that time bullfights are held daily, rather than just every Sunday. Some of the country’s best bullfighters show up for this festival; therefore, try to plan your tickets during end of May or early June to catch a week full of bullfighting ventures.

Where to Buy Tickets
Tickets are available at ticket booths outside the venue, but travelers purchasing airline tickets for cheap online have the ability to also purchase bullfighting tickets online. Tickets at local ticket booths go on sale Friday or Saturday before the event starting at 10:00 AM. However, tickets rarely sell out for Sunday night bullfights; therefore, you can easily purchase tickets outside the venue just before the event.
