United Airlines recently announced it is rebranding its first and business class cabins. The airline has also upgraded its premium cabins on many flights.

The airline will replicate Continental Airline’s business class product for its United Business First on both two and three-class configured flights. The passengers taking United Airlines business class flights will be provided with several amenities, including new food and wine options, duvet-style blankets and new skin-care kits and entertainment.

The airline in a statement said that passengers traveling in United Global First will be offered flat-bed seats, laptop power, USB ports, individual in-flight entertainment on demand, extra storage space and a multi-course meal with wine, on its three-cabin aircraft from March 3, 2012.

Besides, the airline also said that United Global First cabins will also include different bedding amenities, more food choices and new Philosophy-branded skin-care kits.

Air France expands its digital services

Air France recently expanded its digital services to provide more convenience to its passengers. The airline is now offering Air France Connect and My Account digital services to help passengers give more control over their bookings and keep them informed at all stages of their trip.

The passengers making Air France flight reservations will now be provided Air France Connect alert services, using their phone numbers and email addresses. This service will keep passengers updated regarding any delay, cancellation or change of boarding gate in real time throughout their trip. According to the airline, alerts are active from 14 days before departure either by phone, text message or email. This is a free service and is available in eight languages.

The personalized My Account services will help passengers booking Air France flights to create a permanent account and securely store personal data including payment details and seat and meal preferences.

Potential buyers surface for Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines’ parent company Republic Airways Holdings Inc. recently announced that potential buyers for Frontier Airlines have started to surface.

Earlier, Republic Airways Holdings had in November 2011 sounded out that it would be divesting Frontier Airlines, two years after the company bought the Denver-based carrier out of bankruptcy.

Bryan Bedford, Chief Executive Officer of Republic Airways Holdings, said that he had heard from potential buyers for Frontier Airlines and would be soon naming an adviser on whether the unit will be sold or spun off to shareholders.

Frontier flights are being currently operated daily between Salt Lake City and Denver as well as between Provo and Denver.

Republic Airways Holdings wants to separate Frontier Airlines as an independent unit and start focusing on its traditional role of providing regional flights for carriers such as Delta Air Lines.

Spirit Airlines flights helped increase Yeager Airport 2011 traffic

Charleston’s Yeager Airport reported a considerable increase in its passenger traffic in 2011. Rick Atkinson, Director of Yeager Airport, announcing the results said in a statement that the number of people boarding flights at Yeager Airport increased 10 percent in 2011 as compared to 2010.

Atkinson said that 2011 was the third-best year ever for the airport. He also said that the airport reported strong growth of 10 percent at a time when the national growth rate was about 1.5 percent. He further indicated that even the year 2012 had also started strong.

Atkinson said that low-cost fares to Myrtle Beach offered by Spirit Airlines flights have helped drive increase in 2011 passenger traffic. He further said that even low fares offered by AirTran Airways helped in increasing the traffic.

American Airlines expanding presence in Brazil

American Airlines recently announced changes to its coming spring and summer flight schedules, indicating that it will be expanding its presence in Brazil.

The airline said that it will be increasing its flight services between Dallas-Fort Worth and Sao Paulo starting from June, providing an opportunity to its passengers to book air tickets and get the best flight deals for travel to these two destinations.

American Airlines also revealed that the new state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will begin operating on Dallas-Fort Worth-Sao Paulo route next December, thus making Brazil the first market for the new aircraft.

JetBlue Airways doubling flights from New York, Washington

JetBlue Airways recently announced that it will be doubling its flights from New York LaGuardia and Washington’s Ronald Reagan National airports.

The airline said that it is mulling to increase flights to Washington, DC, to at least 16 roundtrips this summer from the existing eight roundtrips.

Besides, JetBlue flights from New York LaGuardia will also be added to three new Florida destinations starting from June this year. These destinations include Fort Myers, Sarasota-Bradenton and Tampa.

The passengers would also be able to make JetBlue Airways flight reservations to Orlando and West Palm Beach as the airline will be adding more flights to these destinations from New York LaGuardia and Fort Lauderdale respectively.

JetBlue Airways is going in for expansion at New York LaGuardia and Washington’s Ronald Reagan National airports as it got an opportunity to bid for some takeoff and landing slots recently swapped between Delta Air Lines and US Airways. The Federal Aviation Administration had allowed these two carriers to trade their rights at New York LaGuardia and Ronald Reagan National Airport, and allot to a low-cost airline they liked.

Frontier Airlines ends Aspen service April 16

Frontier Airlines recently announced that it will end its Aspen service on April 16, 2012.

The end of Aspen service also means that 16 percent of the daily number of seats into Sardy Field will be curtailed resulting in costlier airfares.

The decision to stop Frontier flights has left Aspen tourism officials disappointed. Though, this decision was expected for quite some time following the company’s bankruptcy filing in 2008 and $120 million restructuring.

Earlier, Frontier Airlines had suffered a loss of $90 million in Q1 2011. Considering the losses being suffered, the airline has been trying to sell its four-plane fleet of Bombardier Q-400 turboprops flying into Aspen’s small airport for some months as part of cost-cutting measures.

Frontier Airlines, which has its main hub at Denver, has been operating four flights per day in and out of Sardy Field on the 74-seat Q-400, and one daily flight in the off-seasons.
