Virgin Atlantic Airways being wooed to join Star Alliance
If United Airlines had its way, then Virgin Atlantic Airways flights would become a part of Star Alliance network. Star Alliance is the leading global airline alliance, which has several airlines as its members.
Bob Schumacher, United Airlines’ Managing Director Sales UK and Ireland, recently said that he would love to see Virgin Atlantic Airways joining the Star Alliance. He said that Virgin Atlantic Airways flights network is quite extensive and it has a shareholding in fellow Star Alliance member Singapore Airlines.
He said that it would be good if Virgin Atlantic Airways also becomes a member of Star Alliance in a similar way as Singapore Airlines.
Schumacher said that even Virgin Atlantic Airways’ owner Richard Branson has earlier shown keen interest in joining Star Alliance. He said that Singapore Airlines currently owns a 49 percent stake in the airline, and it is a core partner in Star Alliance. He said that Virgin Atlantic Airways should also follow suit and think of joining the alliance soon.
