Punta Cana is an immensely popular resort town located on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. The town occupies a stunning area that extends over 19 miles (32 km) and features powder soft, white sand beaches and cerulean waters. Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park

The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park is a privately owned scientific research and conversation enclave that consists of 1,500 acres of lowland subtropical forests. The park is so named because the original inhabitants of the area, the Taino Indians, called the lagoons in the park “Ojos”(eyes) due to their unique shape. The reserve has twelve freshwater pools, five of which are open for swimming.

Scape Park

Scape Park is a park whose landscape is populated with limestone formations and lush jungle terrain. The Farallon Cliff stretches for 800 meters along one end of the park. At the base of the cliff lies a hidden Cenote called Hoyo Azul or ‘Blue Hole’ which has the most amazing blue turquoise waters. The Hoyo Azul is a hugely popular swimming spot in the park.

Other attractions in the park include breathtaking limestone formation filled caves, a zip line adventure and historical attractions such as replica homes of the Taino Indians, the indigenous people of the Dominican Republic.

Saona Island

Saona Island is a government-protected island that lies on the southeast tip of the country. The island is a protected nature reserve that is part of the East National Park. Renowned for its unspoiled beauty, the island has long served as a favored location for filmmakers. The island is home to much native flora and fauna including endangered sea turtles who come ashore to lay their eggs during nesting season.

Montana Redonda

Montana Redonda whose name translates as Round Mountain is a lookout point located atop a peak situated in the northeastern part of the country. The summit of the peak offers stunning vistas of the lush green plains, the white sand beaches and the blue waters of the ocean. This lookout point is accessible via a one-hour drive from the resort area of Punta Cana as it is close to the town of Miches.

Choco Museo

Calling all chocoholics! A delightful attraction for both adults and young ones, Punta Cana’s ChocoMuseo, a chocolate museum (an artisan chocolate factory) offers free entry. The institution aims to educate and entertain as it showcases the story of the origin of a chocolate bar by highlighting the ‘the bean to bar’ process. You can even try your hand at making chocolate at the museum’s onsite factory as you sample some and shop for gifts like chocolate tea, cocoa powder, creams and lotions made with cocoa butter to take home to friends and family.
