AeroMexico expects 14 percent rise in passenger traffic in 2012

Mexico’s largest carrier AeroMexico recently stated that it is hoping to see a significant rise in its passenger traffic in 2012.

The airline in a statement said that with the introduction of new aircrafts in its fleet and AeroMexico flights on more routes it expects a 14 percent increase in its passenger traffic this year.

Andres Conesa, Chief Executive of AeroMexico, said that the increase in passenger traffic across Mexico is around 7 percent or 8 percent this year. He disclosed that AeroMexico is boosting its capacity by nearly 10 percent to win a bit of market share.

Last year, 14 million passengers booked AeroMexico flights tickets for traveling to various worldwide destinations. However, the airline hopes to transport 16 million passengers this year, Conesa said.

Conesa cited that a part of the expected increase in passenger traffic would be covered with the arrival of 10 new Embraer E-190 regional jets during 2012. The inclusion of 10 new Embraer aircrafts will also bring the fleet tally to 115 planes.
