Aeromexico to add capacity on Phoenix-Hermosillo route

Mexico’s flag carrier Aeromexico recently announced that it will increase capacity on Phoenix-Hermosillo route effective September 1, 2012.

The airline in a statement said that it will deploy a bigger aircraft to operate flights on the Phoenix-Hermosillo route. The new aircraft will now seat 76 passengers, instead of the existing 50.

Currently, Aeromexico flights to Hermosillo from Phoenix generate $11 million per year. By adding the capacity from September, the Phoenix-Hermosillo flights will boost the revenues.

David Cavazos, Phoenix City Manager, said that the increase in passengers per flight is expected to generate $5.6 million (in airport revenue) every year. He also expressed happiness over the adding of capacity and said that this is indeed excellent news not only for Phoenix, but for the entire region. He said that increased capacity for passengers and freight on the aircraft will also result in increased opportunities on both sides.

Aeromexico stated that it is increasing passenger capacity in the first two financial quarters of this year by 9 to 10 percent.
