Air Canada passenger traffic up in February 2012

Air Canada recently announced its operational results for February 2012 and reported a rise in its passenger traffic.

Air Canada flights ran fuller in February this year as compared to the same month in 2011. According to the airline, the busier Canada-US transborder routes were the major factors resulting in the growth of passenger traffic.

Providing February 2012 operational details, Air Canada said that its system load factor increased 76.8 percent from 75.9 percent in February 2010.

The airline’s system traffic rose 6.5 percent, whereas its system-wide capacity increased 5.3 percent.

Calin Rovinescu, Chief Executive of Air Canada, said that the airline, led by an increase in traffic in the US transborder market of 10.7 percent, succeeded in generating greater traffic in all markets that it currently serves.

However, Canada’s second-biggest carrier WestJet Airlines in its February 2012 operational results reported slight decline in its passenger traffic, but said that its forward bookings look sound.
