Alitalia integration deal with Wind Jet approved

Italy’s flag carrier Alitalia recently announced it has signed an agreement with Wind Jet that will lead to the latter’s integration with Alitalia. Alitalia-Cai executive board approved the acquisition of Antonino Pulvirenti's privately-owned Wind Jet, which was established in 2003.

The integration will take place in two phases. According to Alitalia, Antonino Pulvirenti will first of all require to hive off the ailing company with debts amounting to 100 million Euros. In order to acquire Wind Jet, which currently has a fleet of around 20 aircrafts, Alitalia is ready to pay a cash amount of 20-30 million Euros.

Wind Jet presently holds 6.3 percent of the share market that raise up to 18 percent in Sicily on the routes between Rome and Catania, Palermo, and Trapani.

With Sicily being the main target, the airline wants to operate Alitalia flights here and connect the region with many Italian and European cities.
Alitalia also wants to buy another low-cost carrier Blue Panorama, but has so far unable to make much headway over the issue.
