China Airlines launches direct flights between Songshan and Gimpo Airport in Seoul

Taiwan’s flag carrier China Airlines recently announced the launch of its new direct flights between Taipei International Airport (Songshan) and Gimpo Airport in South Korean capital Seoul.

The airline in a statement said that the launch of China airlines flights between these two destinations has turned Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou’s dream into a reality and will be fulfilling his vision of a “golden aviation circle in Northeast Asia”.

This will be China Airlines first flight from Taiwan on the route. The airline has deployed a Boeing 737-800 aircraft to operate the route.

The newly-launched direct flight at Gimpo Airport will significantly reduce traveling time by 20 to 30 minutes to reach Seoul. So far, the travelers heading to downtown Seoul had to spend an extra hour on the road after arriving at Incheon International Airport, the main international airport in Seoul.

The two countries, Taiwan and South Korea, were unable to reach an agreement on the Songshan-Gimpoo route until last year. At the initial stage of the route’s operation, both sides have agreed to operate two flights per day. The two countries have also agreed to discuss about the raising of the number of Songshan-Gimpo flights at the end of this year.
