China Airlines, other carriers form alliance in Greater China
Taiwan’s national flag carrier China Airlines recently announced that it has now become partners with SkyTeam Cargo’s members and formed an alliance in Greater China. Apart from China Airlines, other Chinese carriers that have become alliance partners include China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Xiamen Air.
The alliance would enable China Airlines flights to vastly improve its competitiveness in Greater China. C.J. Chang, Chairman of China Airlines, in a recent statement confirmed that the airline has entered into an alliance for mutual benefits.
Media reports indicated that the recent alliance of China Airlines, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines would greatly benefit the passengers in terms of cross-strait and inter-airline bookings.
China Airlines became the first carrier in Taiwan to become a member of international airline alliance by joining SkyTeam in 2010. The alliance was able to be formed after more than one year of negotiation among these carriers. The alliance has particularly come into being with a view to improve their competitiveness in Greater China. Currently, the four carriers together offer 267 weekly flights to 34 destinations in China.
