China Airlines planning to invest $2.33 billion to upgrade fleet

There will be a boost in China Airlines flights capacity after the airline fully upgrades its fleet.

Taiwan’s national flag carrier China Airlines recently announced it is planning to upgrade its fleet by purchasing Boeing 777-300ER and/or Airbus A350-1000 aircrafts.

The airline has decided to invest $2.33 billion (70 billion Taiwan Dollars) to replace the existing 10 Boeing 747-400 aircrafts with more fuel-efficient aircrafts like Boeing 777-300ERs and Airbus A350-1000.
The airline in a statement said that it is upgrading its fleet to boost competitiveness. The airline is likely to finalize the deal within two years.

According to China Airlines, each Boeing 777-300ER aircraft or A350-1000 aircraft will cost nearly $250-300 million (about 8.9 billion Taiwan Dollars). At this rate, the airline will be investing $2.33 billion (70 billion Taiwan Dollars) to buy 10 such aircrafts.

Currently, China Airlines owns a fleet of 71 aircrafts. This also includes leased aircrafts, of which 51 are passenger aircrafts and some of them have reached the age of decommissioning due to start in 2015.
