Cheap Flights to Delhi

Aug 24, 2011

When taking flights into a new airport, traveler’s often find themselves in a sea of wary and hustling travelers, all too busy to help you find another person’s way. Though maps are available throughout the airport, a new location is just that, new. Therefore, before you hop on a plane with cheap tickets to Delhi, familiarize yourself with the travel hub.

A Little History

Released to a private operator in 2006, the New Delhi airport brings in flights from all over the country and is constantly upgrading. With both international and domestic flights available under the same roof, the airport experiences over 34 million travelers in a given year. Known in the industry as the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Delhi airport is the sixth largest airport in the world.

To City Center
Travelers taking cheap flights to Delhi will be excited to know that the airport is only 45 minutes away from city center by taxi. During peak business hours, the road toward the airport has a tendency to become congested; therefore, give yourself enough time between leaving the airport and other obligations.

Airport Terminals
The New Delhi airport has three major terminals, all of which bring in tourists on cheap tickets to the city every day. Terminal 1C is a stand-alone terminal that offers low cost domestic flights into the airport. Terminal 1D is another stand-alone terminal that offers cheap flights for domestic departures only. Terminal T3 is the hub for international flights incoming and outgoing from the city.

Facilities and Amenities
Travelers with airline tickets into or out of the airport will find that there are more than enough facilities and amenities to suit their needs. The airport offers world class check-in counters, immigration desks and officer services, aerobridges, automatic walkways, business centers and even a shopping mall. There are no longer luggage storage facilities at the airport due to security risks, but travelers on cheap flights to Delhi can enjoy free wireless internet throughout the airport.

Traveler Tips
When purchasing cheap flights for December to February, be aware that Delhi experiences a high volume of fog, which may interrupt your flight with cancellations or heavy delays. If your flights require you to transfer between Terminals 1C or 1D over to T3, you will need to take a taxi or bus service, which means you need to allow enough time to gather luggage and head over to the secondary terminal between flights. Buses are available free of charge with the purchase of airline tickets.
