Cheap Flights to Honolulu

Sep 15, 2011

Many flights come to the Honolulu, Hawaii for the perfect weather and sandy beaches. Families come to see the many attractions the island has to offer. When traveling with the family, not only should you look for the best deals and cheap tickets, you should also schedule time to see some family-friendly attractions located on the island.

Iolani Barracks

While most families schedule a tour of the Iolani Palace when booking airline tickets to Honolulu, Hawaii, they forget about the Iolani Barracks. Built in 1870, the barracks were made as the royal tomb guards. One interesting fact about this piece of history, however, was that it was deconstructed brick-by-brick in 1965 and moved to a different location by the city’s government.

Statue of King Kamehameha I

When your family has finished visiting Iolani Barracks, make a trip over to King Street to see the exquisite statue of King Kamehameha I. Created by an Italian sculptor, this bronze and stone statue has stood its ground since 1878 and is a popular attraction for cheap tickets to the island.

King Lunalilo Mausoleum

Locals from other islands find cheap flights to Honolulu, Hawaii to visit and pay respects to the mausoleum of King Lunalilo. Located on the southeast corner of King and Punchbowl Street, the mausoleum sits upon exquisite church garden grounds. Open year-round to visitors, the only request by the groundskeepers is that tourists visiting the mausoleum pay their respects with silence.

Honolulu Zoo

Flights to Honolulu, Hawaii do not only bring families for the history, but for the exotic animals and bird exhibits found at the Honolulu Zoo.  With favorable weather year-round, the Honolulu Zoo is home to some of the world’s most exotic animals. Visit the Sumatran Tiger, Hawaiian Hoary bat or kamodo dragons along with 1,200 different animals and over 28 species of endangered animals. When purchasing airline tickets online, purchase a family or group pass to the Honolulu Zoo and receive a group discount.

If you are travelling on cheap flights with young children over the age of five, visit the Keiki Zoo, located within the Honolulu Zoo. Here children will find over 1.6 acres of interactive exhibits. Children are allowed to pet and interact with animals such as guinea pigs, cows, chickens, donkeys, llamas and even pot-bellied pigs. Each exhibit teaches children about the animal they are interacting with and is open year-round. Admission is free when visitors purchase tickets to the Honolulu Zoo.
