Oudejaarsavond (New Year's Eve)
New Year is a global event celebrated in every part of the world with vigor, fun, and gaiety. Amsterdam is no exception. The eve is distinguished with the splashing of champagne all around, oliebollen (greasy deep-fried blobs of dough, apple, and raisins) and never ending fireworks that light up the dark sky. The streets wear a new look with people wandering in mood to indulge in the luxury, and fervor of the moment. Nieuwmarkt and Dam Square are landmark places thronged by the revelers.
This event is usually held in the middle of January. It is a three day event and a haven for pop and rock lovers. Music lovers hit the venue to indulge and express their love for their beloved passion music.
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is relished by the people as much as the New Years Eve on 31st December. Usually held in early February many travelers flock to the city to participate in the traditional event.
