Cancun prepares for the Festival of the Dead
Cancun is a beautiful Mexican city and a prime tourist destination. The city comes alive to different festivals and events throughout the year. Termed as the jewel of Mexico, Cancun is preparing to celebrate the famed Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival in November.
This festival is perhaps a peculiar one for the locals yet popular and highly awaited. This year it will be celebrated on November 1 and 2 with fun and vigor. The family and friends of the dead gather at the grave of their loved ones. Together they clean and decorate the grave and offer food and drinks loved by the departed soul. The families also build private altars and create sugar skulls. They beautify these altars with marigold flowers, favorite food, beverages, gifts and other souvenirs once possessed by the dead.
