All Souls' Day 2013
All Souls Day - Dia de Finados is one of the religious festivals celebrated in the city. The people on this day pay homage to the dead and as a mark of respect the country calls it the Day of the Dead. It is observed with a national holiday. People attend religious service, prayers, and visit their loved ones in the graveyard. The São João Batista cemetery dons a unique look on this day as the family and friends gather around the graves of the departed to pay their respect and homage.
Proclamation of the Republic
November 15 is a public holiday in Brazil. The whole country is engulfed in national pride, as it was on this day in 1889 that Brazil was declared a Republic. Together the fellow citizens celebrate this monumental feat.
Samba do Trabalhador
Clube Renascença plays a gracious host to Worker's Samba in Andaraí. This is one of the biggest Samba parties held in the city. It is a popular event with the locals, and the tourists alike. After all soaking in some fun in the city is an added advantage for the first time visitors. Thirteen popular musicians led by Moacyr Luz enthrall the crowds in Zona Norte Club. The party usually starts at 4:30 pm and continues till about 9 pm.
