The Singapore Rule Book
So you are considering booking your plane tickets for a holiday in Singapore! That’s great! To ensure that you have a fantastic holiday and are prepared for all that the city-state has to offer, here’s a list of the most pertinent information pertaining to vacationing in Singapore.
When to go and what to pack
Owing to its location, just few degrees north off the equator; Singapore is perpetually warm and sunny. Rains should be expected on a daily basis although they are experienced most from November to January. You can book your flights to Singapore for any time as there is no such marked variance in weather leaving aside the monsoon months.
When it comes to packing, pack loose, light weight summer clothes that can provide you comfort and ease in the hot and sunny Singaporean weather. Pack in an umbrella and raincoat as an added safety measure. It is advised that you carry an umbrella long with you at all times, keeping in mind the daily rains.
Besides this, try not to be out in the sun for long periods of time, as that can totally drain you out of energy. In fact the locals themselves shun the outdoors as much as they can and travel in air conditioned vehicles to everywhere.
Singapore exercises very stringent and severe drug laws. Those found in possession of drugs are accorded a death penalty, also applicable to foreigners. Even those passengers who are in transit come under the purview of this rule.
Yet another thing Singapore government is strictly against is cigarettes. There is no duty-free concession applicable on cigarettes. The city-state sells its own SDPC stamped cigarettes and anyone found smoking anything else is fined for a hefty amount of $500. Besides this, even chewing gum is considered an illegal item.
Few other items that come under the list of banned items here are pirated goods, handcuffs, pornography, specific publications like Unification Church and Jehovah’s Witnesses, Malaysian newspapers, satellite dishes, billboards and overhead wires. Besides this the government doesn’t approve of feeding the monkeys and pigeons and male homosexual activities and displays.
