Jet Airways holding talks with Star Alliance, SkyTeam

India’s largest private carrier Jet Airways has indicated its intention to join either Star Alliance or its rival SkyTeam in future.

Both Star Alliance and SkyTeam are leading global airlines’ alliance, with each having significant number of airlines as their members.
Jet Airways flights are being currently operated in a number of domestic destinations within India as well as internationally.

Jet Airways initially started negotiations with Star Alliance and the talks had entered in an advanced stage. The airline was to join Star Alliance along with the state-owned carrier Air India. However, Air India’s induction into Star Alliance was finally put off as it has been ailing for quite some years now with a bad financial health.

Apart from Star Alliance, Jet Airways is now holding talks with the rival alliance SkyTeam. Naresh Goyal, Chairman of Jet Airways, said that the airline is currently into talks with both SkyTeam and Star Alliance, and is hoping to see something materialize with either of them.

Some of the key members of Star Alliance include Air Canada, All Nippon Airways, Air China, Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa. The members of SkyTeam include Aeroflot, China Eastern Airlines, KLM, Air France and Delta Air Lines among others.
