Jet Airways may move international operations to Munich by year end

India’s largest private carrier Jet Airways has indicated that it is mulling to move a large part of its international operations to Munich in Germany by the year end. The move is aimed at giving the airline a cutting edge advantage over its rivals.

Jet Airways recently joined Star Alliance, one of the biggest global airline alliances, whose member airlines together fly over 600 million passengers across the world annually.

The airline currently has a European hub at Brussels in Belgium, which was established in 2007. By moving a large part of its international operations to Munich, the airline is likely to curtail its operations to Brussels significantly.
 
The ministry of civil aviation has been approached with a request for 35 new Jet Airways flights to Munich by the airline officials. The request has been placed at a time when the ministry has allowed private carriers to have equal rights with India’s flag carrier Air India for international operations.

Currently, Jet Airways operates 200 international flights every day. It presently owns a fleet of 101 aircrafts. The airline earns around 60 percent of its revenues from international operations.
