Jet Airways stops flights between Chennai and Kuala Lumpur

India’s leading private carrier Jet Airways recently announced it has finally stopped flying between India and Malaysia.

The airline said in a statement that Jet Airways flights tickets will not be available now for travel to Malaysia. Jet Airways flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chennai stopped operating effective July 1 this year.

Jet Airways was operating once daily flight on Chennai-Kuala Lumpur-Chennai route. The airline, however, has not yet disclosed why it has decided to stop service on this route. The stopping of flight services on this route is likely to prompt other airline operators to increase their airfares.

Currently, the Chennai-Kuala Lumpur route is being served by other carriers, including Malaysia Aistlines, AirAsia and Air India Express. Malaysia Airlines operates once daily flight on this route. AirAsia is operating twice daily flights on this route, while Air India Express is serving this route on alternate days.

A total of 693,056 tourists from India visited Malaysia from Chennai and other Indian cities in 2011.
