Jet Airways to penalize passengers for not carrying e-tickets

Passengers taking Jetlite and Jet Airways flights will now be penalized and required to pay INR50 if they fail to carry a copy of their e-tickets to the airport when boarding their flights.

India’s leading private carrier has already started charging passengers who asked for duplicate printouts of their Jet Airways flights tickets.

The airline’s recent decision has upset scores of passengers, particularly those who frequently fly to domestic destinations. Jet Airways along with its low-cost subsidiary Jetlite currently cater to more than one-fourth of the domestic fliers in India.

Jet Airways is also the only domestic carrier in India to have increased its excess baggage charges and its rebooking charges in the past two months.

Travel experts have decried the airline’s move saying that it is surprising that the airline is charging passengers for small services such as forgetting to carry a copy of their e-tickets, since in this e-age as most passengers use smart phones and very few carry e-ticket printouts to the airport.
