Lufthansa to go ahead with new routes to Berlin from UK
Passengers will now be able to take Lufthansa flights to Berlin from the UK. Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa recently announced that its plans to launch new routes to Berlin from Manchester and Birmingham in the UK will go ahead. The announcement has come despite the opening of Berlin’s new airport being postponed.
The airline in a statement said that the new routes to Berlin in Germany from Manchester and Birmingham in the UK will go ahead as earlier planned and will be launched on June 3, 2012. The introduction of the new routes had initially been scheduled for inauguration coinciding with the opening of Berlin’s new Brandenburg Airport.
The airline said that the opening of Berlin’s new Brandenburg Airport has been postponed, and Lufthansa flights on these two routes have now been scheduled to land at Berlin’s existing, Tegel Airport.
Lufthansa also disclosed that its service to Berlin out of London Heathrow, which operated thrice daily and has traditionally used Tegel Airport, will continue to operate as usual beyond the date that it was expected to switch to the new airport.
