Qantas Airways to raise fuel surcharges by 9.7 percent

Booking Qantas Airways flights will become costlier now as the airline is all set to raise surcharges.

Australia’s largest carrier Qantas Airways recently announced it will be increasing fuel surcharges on some routes by at least 9.7 percent.

The airline in a statement said that it will also make extensive efforts to rein in capacity growth as higher jet fuel prices globally is eating into its profitability.

Qantas Airways flights tickets will become costly as the airline seeks to add as much as $31 (A$30) to international fares from Australia.

The airline also stated that it will add $10.40 (A$10) to domestic flights to compensate for growing fuel costs.

Qantas Airways disclosed that the biggest hike in fuel surcharges will be on routes to the US and Europe. Fuel surcharges on both these routes are being hiked by $31 effective April 12, 2012.

Qantas Airways tickets to Los Angeles will now have a surcharge of $353.63 (A$340). Passengers making Qantas Airways flight reservations to London and Frankfurt will now be required to pay $395.23 (A$380) in addition to their fares.
