Scandinavian Airlines flights to Bangkok would be suspended from summer 2013. The suspension of flights to Thailand is being seen as a worrying sign and is indicative of the ongoing economic turmoil being currently faced by European carriers.
Scandinavian Airlines recently announced it will be suspending its flights between Bangkok and Copenhagen from summer months next year. The airline had to take this move despite high load factors on the route.
The airline in a statement said that it will stop selling Scandinavian Airlines flights tickets on Copenhagen-Bangkok route from mid April to mid September in 2013. This will be for the first time that the airline will stop flying on the route after an uninterrupted service of over 60 years.
The airline disclosed that the revenue earnings on the Copenhagen-Bangkok route are among the lowest on any intercontinental route flown by Scandinavian Airlines. The airline stated that few passengers booked air tickets in business class. The airline said that it will be redeploying the Airbus A340-300 aircraft serving on Bangkok route on new routes to US being operated out of Copenhagen.
