South African Airways-Qantas Airways codeshare pact extended

The codeshare agreement between South African Airways and Qantas Airways has now been extended and approved by the Australian International Air Services Commission (IASC). A South African Competition Commission exemption decision is still being awaited for South African Airways flights to be operated with the help of Qantas Airways.

Media reports recently said that the Australian IASC has permitted South African Airways to continue extending its codeshare agreement with Qantas Airways and put its flight code on Qantas Airways-operated flights between South Africa and Australia until December 2014.

Qantas Airways has also been granted permission by the Australian IASC to operate seven flights every week to South African destinations for five years from the date that Qantas Airways’ existing determinations on the South African route are revoked.

South African Airways in a statement said that it has already applied to the South African Competition Commission to grant an exemption certificate allowing it to continue with its codeshare agreement with Qantas Airways beyond December 31, 2012.
