SriLankan Airlines catapult Sri Lanka as golf destination
The recent conclusion of SriLankan Airlines Asia Pacific Senior Masters Championship sponsored by the airline has catapulted Sri Lanka to an emerging international golf destination. The championship ended last week at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort in Kandy.
SriLankan Airlines flights carried 53 senior professional golfers from across the world to participate in the country’s first top-level golf championship tour organized by the airline.
Sri Lanka is aiming to attract 2.5 million tourists in the country by 2016. Considering this even Sri Lankan Airlines is trying to support the government’s tourism drive in a big way by attracting more up-market visitors keen to sample niche sports events while enjoying a holiday here.
Golfers from the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Taiwan, Philippines, South Africa, UK, Malaysia and Switzerland boarded SriLankan Airlines flights to and reached Colombo to participate in the event.
