Aeroflot to acquire Eight Boeing 777 ahead of Winter Olympics

In a bid to boost its fleet capacity, Aeroflot Russian Airline recently signed a purchase deal with Boeing to acquire eight 777s aircraft ahead of Winter Olympics. The new order will include six 777-300s and two 777-200s.

The aircrafts are expected to cost approximately USD 2.17 billion.

According to Boeing’s spokesperson, the new order is a part of the long term plan of buying 16 new Boeing 777 aircrafts in the next six years.

The first deliveries of the new aircrafts will be completed by 2013 to fulfill the travel demand during 2014 Winter Olympics that will take place in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The airline has much earlier placed an order of 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, whose delivery is three years behind schedule.
