Air India moves to Heathrow Terminal 4
Jun 02, 2011
After more than 43 years of operating from Terminal 3, India’s flag carrier Air India has now moved to the newly refurbished Terminal 4 of London’s Heathrow Airport with effect from May 25, 2011.
Heathrow Airport staff celebrated Air India’s move to the new terminal by donning traditional Indian dress, welcoming passengers in Hindi, and greeting them with garlands and trays of Barfi sweets.
With flight operations starting from Terminal 4, Air India passengers will benefit from more check-in space, a dedicated new premium lounge, and more space at arrivals for the convenience of the passengers and their guests.
According to a recent passenger survey, the Terminal 4 has been ranked as Europe’s most improved airport terminal.
Air India started its operation from Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3 in the 1960s and had since been its longest airline residents until it moved to newly built Terminal 4 recently.
At present, Air India flies more than 390,700 passengers annually from Heathrow connecting London with major Indian cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Amritsar. It may be noted that Heathrow Airport has more direct flights to India than any other airport in Europe.
