American Airlines Flagship Suite in first class section on Boeing 777-200ER to end

American Airlines recently announced that it will be overhauling the cabins of its Boeing 777-200ER fleet and about half of its Boeing 767-300ER fleet.

Media reports outlining American Airlines overhaul plans said that this will include lie-flat business class seats on the jets, Wi-Fi on international flights and more in-flight entertainment options.

The reports also indicated that the airline’s overhaul plan will also mean the end of its “Flagship Suite” first class section on its three-class Boeing 777-200ERs.

According to American Airlines, the first class seats on its Boeing 777-200ERs will be replaced with 45 lie-flat business class seats and 45 main cabin extra seats. Currently, the aircrafts have 247 seats. However, after the overhaul is complete, the Boeing 777-200ERs with the new configuration will have 260 seats.

Media reports stated that American Airlines is reverting the Boeing 777-200ERs to two-cabin service (Business and Coach) in order to better match capacity and demand. The reports also said that the airline though isn’t getting rid of international first class on all of its aircrafts.

American Airlines has made it apparent that it will continue to have three cabins on its new Boeing 777-300ERs aircrafts, which will be put into operations later this year. The airline is scheduled to take the delivery of 10 of these aircrafts by the end of 2013.
