Brazil’s “Polynesia” -- Ilhabela, Sao Paulo

In the state of Sao Paulo, travelers arriving on cheap tickets find their way to Ilhabela. Known as the “beautiful island” or “Ilha de Sao Sebastiao” to the locals, the island most certainly fulfills its name. First discovered in 1502 by AmericoVespucio, this island is rich in history including stories about pirates, slavery and smuggling.

Over 85 percent of Ilhabela is undeveloped and for good reason -- it is all part of the Ilhabela State Park. The west side of the island, however, has lodging, dining and some shops for travelers coming in on flights to Sao Paulo that wish to stay on the island. Though undeveloped, the island does extremely well for Sao Paulo, especially during tourist season, which is why more travelers look for cheap flights in the fall or winter months than summer.

Ilhabela offers travelers over 35 kilometers of beach scenery, a rainforest and over 400 waterfalls they have to hike and climb to in order to see. Don’t forget the legends of hidden pirate treasure on the island. If traveling with the family; consider picking up a treasure map and find some of the legendary treasure for yourself. Travelers arriving on airline tickets for a little sea-worthy adventure can take boat tours around the island, go scuba diving or even take a sailing trip.

Getting to the Island
Ilhabela is located 15 to 20 minutes by ferry from the mainland of Sao Paulo. Buses are available at both ferry ports to take tourists throughout the island or back to the airport, depending on which direction they are going. The marinas offer sail boat rides over to the island for travelers looking for some adventure with their cheap tickets to Brazil.

When to Visit
Luckily, Ilhabela has a year-round temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit; which means travelers can purchase Sao Paulo flight deals any time of the year and still find favorable weather. Summer months, however, are the high season for the island and therefore of the most traveler-traffic. Not only are tourists flying on cheap flights from all over the world to this wonderful location, but even locals from the mainland find their way over to Ilhabela during the summer months. If you look for a “quieter” time, consider visiting Ilhabela during the off season. Travelers looking to go diving will find the best weather and ocean conditions from March through October, while sailors should visit during the summer.
