Business class seats evolving even as airlines upgrade Boeing 777

As soon as an opportunity comes to travel in business class on long-haul international flights, no matter what one immediately goes for it because of the luxury and amenities that comes with it. The good news is that even after more than 20 years of the delivery of first Boeing aircraft world’s major airlines continue to pitch in for upgraded premium cabins than before. Premium business class seating has been evolving and many airlines are upgrading their Boeing fleet.

According to media reports, Virgin Australia has recently started implementing its much-awaited revamp of its business class cabins on its Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts being currently used for operating flights to Abu Dhabi and Los Angeles. The airline’s new business class will have a 1-2-1 configuration layout. John Borghetti, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Virgin Australia, said, “The airline decided against adopting Emirates Airline’s old 2-3-2 configuration and instead favored 1-2-1 layout finally. We are visualizing the new business class seat on Boeing 777-300ER to be a halfway house between first class and business class.”

The upgraded premium seats by Virgin Australia are undoubtedly considered to be best available so far in business class offered on the trans-Pacific route. The new business class seats have also been adopted by other airlines as well, including Qantas Airways, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines. The upgraded business class seats on Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts are based on the same model that has earlier been installed on Airbus A330 aircrafts in 2015 by Virgin Australia. The A330 business class seats are being offered to customers traveling between Pert and the U.S. East Coast. However, the new business class seats on Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts will be offering more personal space to the customers than before.

Emirates Airline, which is presently operating the world’s largest fleet, is also undertaking extensive efforts for narrowing the wide gap that business class fliers are currently experiencing on the airline’s flagship Airbus A380 aircrafts vis-à-vis the Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts. Emirates Airline has placed orders for 188 Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts, which are expected to be delivered starting from November 2016 onwards.
